This study aimed at understanding how business related travelling began, how it developed over time and how sensitive it has been to the world’s events. This research also aimed at understanding the social, economic and environmental consequences business related travel has globally, nationally and individually. Because business related travel has financial impacts for businesses, this research aimed at understanding how companies manage their travel expenses and how modern IT can help in this process. The business-related practical case study of this thesis was to learn and understand the process of implementing and configuring Concur Expense.
This research based thesis used qualitative research methodology. Secondary data was gathered from relevant literature and primary data collected from participation of Concur Expense implementation project as role of technical SAP basis administrator.
This report shows that increased volumes of business travel and tourism led to the development of modern travel and expense management applications, which customers are implementing in today’s digitalized world. The data gathered proves that business travel and tourism has become indispensable to the world economy, it is sensitive to the world’s events and it can be examined from multiple different perspectives. This study also suggests that integrations, good quality of HR data and business process knowledge are the most important areas for a successful Concur Expense implementation project.
Findings from this report may be used as a reference if starting a new travel and expense management implementation project. This research may help in asking the right questions and directing attention to the key areas when implementing modern travel and expense management application. Experience and understanding are the most important outcomes of this thesis process.
