Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää kahden erityyppisen biojätteen esikäsittelylaitteiston toiminnan vaikutukset biokaasuprosessiin pääsevän muovin määrään. Työn teoriaosuudessa käsitellään biokaasuntuotannon vaiheita sekä erityisesti biojätteen käsittelyä biokaasulaitoksessa. Prosessiin päästessään muovi vie reaktorin hyötytilavuutta sekä tukkii pumppuja ja putkistoja kulkiessaan prosessia eteenpäin. Biokaasuprosessin poistetta eli reaktorista ulos tulevaa mädätettä käytetään maataloudessa lannoitteena, joten myös lopputuotteen laadun kannalta on tärkeää minimoida muovin pääsy prosessiin.
Työssä vertailtiin repijätyyppistä Tiger-Huber -laitteistoa sekä vesierotukseen perustuvaa Waste Pulper -laitteistoa. Gasum Oy:n kahdella Suomen biokaasulaitoksella on käytössään uudempi Waste Pulper -ratkaisu, ja valtaosalla muista laitoksista käytössä on Tiger-Huber -laitteisto. Vertailu toteutettiin laboratoriossa tehdyn seulontakokeen avulla.
Laitteistojen käsittelemästä biojätemassasta kerättiin kokoomanäytteet ennen massan kulkeutumista biokaasureaktoriin. Kerättyjä kokoomanäytteitä käsiteltiin Riihimäen biokaasulaitoksella seulontamenetelmällä. Seulonnassa käytettyjen seulojen silmäkoot olivat 16,0 mm, 13,2 mm, 12,5 mm, 9,5 mm, 6,3 mm ja 5,6 mm. Tavoitteena oli etsiä kerätyn näytteen joukosta silmin havaittavat muovin kappaleet ja selvittää miten paljon muovia esikäsittelylaitteistot kykenevät biojätemassasta poistamaan.
Biojätteen esikäsittelylaitteistojen muovin erotustehokkuus laskettiin vertaamalla seuloilta kerätyn muovin määrää Helsingin seudun ympäristöpalveluiden biojätteen lajittelututkimuksen määrittämään biojätteen sisältämään muovin määrään. Seulonnoista saatujen tulosten perusteella Waste Pulper -laitteisto kykenee poistamaan biojätteen muovipakkaukset tehokkaamin kuin Tiger-Huber -laitteisto. Waste Pulper -laitteiston käsittelemä biojätemassa on myös ominaisuuksiltaan tasalaatuisempaa. Muovin päätymistä biokaasuprosessiin voitaisiin vähentää tehostamalla laitteistojen kunnossapitoa sekä mahdollisilla laiteinvestoinneilla jotka liitetään osaksi biojätteen käsittelyn prosessia. The aim of the thesis was to determine the effects of the operation of two different types of biowaste pretreatment equipment on the quantity of plastic entering the biogas process. The theory part of this thesis deals with the phases of biogas production and in particular the biowaste pretreatment in biogas plant. When entering the process, plastic takes up the reactor’s capacity and clogs pumps and pipelines while moving forward in the process. The biogas process effluent i.e digestage, is used in agriculture as fertilizer, so it is important for the quality of the final product to minimize the access of plastic to the process.
The ripping type Tiger-Huber equipment and Waste Pulper equipment based on water separation were compared. Gasum Oy's two biogas plants in Finland have a newer Waste Pulper solution, and most of the other plants use Tiger-Huber equipment. The comparison was performed using a sieving method in the laboratory.
Composite samples of the biowaste mass processed by the two sets of equipment were collected before the mass was diverted to the biogas reactor. The collected composite samples were processed at Riihimäki Biogas Plant by the sieving method. The mesh sizes used in sieving were 16.0 mm, 13.2 mm, 12.5 mm, 9.5 mm, 6.3 mm and 5.6 mm. The objective was to search for plastic pieces in the collected sample and find out how much plastic the set of pretreatment equipment are capable of removing from the biowaste mass.
The plastic separation efficiency of the biowaste pretreatment equipment was calculated by comparing the amount of plastic collected from the sieves with the amount of plastic contained in a biowaste sorting study by the Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority (HSY). Based on the results of the sievings, the Waste Pulper is more capable of removing plastic packages from biowaste than the Tiger-Huber equipment. The biowaste mass processed by the Waste Pulper -equipment is also more homogenous by composition. The plastic ending up in the biogas process could be reduced by more efficient maintenance of equipment as well as possible investment in equipment into biowaste processing.
