Tiivistelmä
Ihmisen peruselintoiminnot ovat hengitys, verenkierto ja tajunta. Peruselintoiminnot ovat ihmisen elossa pysymisen kannalta välttämättömiä. Niiden häiriintyessä oikea aikainen hoito on hyvä hallita.
The basic vital signs in a human are breathing, blood circulation and consciousness. They are essential for the survival of a man. In the event of disruption of vital signs, it is good to be able to provide timely treatment. This thesis discusses the systematic assessment of the patient using the ABCDE approach. It is used in health care and it helps to understand the assessment of the state of basic vital signs. The aim of the ABCDE approach is to detect possible organ failures early and to address them quickly.
This practise-based thesis was commissioned by Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The purpose of the thesis was to provide information for the first-year nursing students on systematic patient assessment using the ABCDE approach. The objective of the thesis was to produce an electronic slide show and online exam for the Basics of Nursing study module.
The electronic slide show was used to support contact teaching. Students gave feedback on the content of the electronic slide show. The feedback was mainly good. The presentation was characterized as explicit and the students reported that the material will benefit their learning. An idea for further development is to make nursing students an educational video on the ABCDE approach.
