Opasvideoiden tietoperusta perustuu Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirin kuvantamisen menetelmäohjeisiin.
Plain x-rays are a central part of clinical diagnostics and skeletal conventional radiography examinations are the most performed medical imaging in Finland. Learning and practicing them creates a base for competence already in the radiographer studies. The purpose of this thesis was to produce guide videos for the radiographer students of Oulu university of applied sciences to support their learning of plain x-ray examinations of an adults’ lower extremity. The thesis has been executed as a practical thesis in collaboration with Oulu university of applied sciences.
The goal of the thesis is to deepen the information offered by the already existing picture guide book, and to introduce projections that were not included in the picture guide. As a learning tool, the videos help radiographer students outline the independent positioning of patients in different projections before the practical training period. The information basis of the guide videos is based on the imaging method guide of Northern Ostrobothnia hospital district. The information basis of the thesis utilizes up to date national and international references which have been searched with the electronic and physical databases of the Oulu university of applied science library.
For study material, the thesis produced seven guide videos about the positioning of adults lower extremity in plain x-ray examinations. The content of the guide videos was made as clear and concise as possible for the best possible usability. The guide videos are available in the YouTube server through links and QR -codes, which provides a wide usability with different electronical devices and systems. The quality and usability of the guide videos was evaluated through a questionnaire sent to three different radiography student classes. The students answered a Webropol -questionnaire about usability, layout and content of the guide videos. The guide videos were adjusted to be more user friendly based on the feedback received from the questionnaire.
In the future this study material could be extended with guide videos made of the conventional radiography examinations of the upper extremity, torso and head. In addition, there are a lot of special features in the conventional radiography of children and adolescents, and learning them might benefit from video material. Similar type of guide videos could also be done with different modalities.
