Kehittämistyön tuloksena syntyi tiivis opas, jolla pyrittiin vastamaan vanhempien tarpeisiin. Opas suunniteltiin toimimaan vanhempien motivoijana lapsen unen tukemisessa.
Children’s sleeping problems are common and they have significant impact on public health. By recognizing sleeping problems, many long-term problems can be avoided. By guidance parents and the whole family can man-age their everyday life.
This thesis was executed as a development work of which subscriber was The Mother and Child Home Association of Kuopio. The purpose of this thesis was to produce an updated guide for parents of 6–24-month-old children and the employees of The Mother and Child Home Association of Kuopio to support the sleep guidance they offer. The mission of this thesis was to support The Mother and Child Home Association of Kuopio sleep guidance by using this guide. The guide will be used by families to support the sleep guidance. The most important mission of this development work was to represent children’s sleep, its significance and how sleep guidance can be used to advance sleep.
The result of this thesis was the compact guide which seeks to fulfill the demands of parents. The guide was designed to act as a motivator for parents in supporting their child’s sleep. The aim was to make the guide easily approachable and encouraging. There were used pictures and self-completion sections in the guide, which idea was to illustrate and support the understanding of the contest.
The further research for this development work would be parents’ experiences of the usability of the guide as a support for sleep guidance. Illustrative videos introducing the different sleep methods alongside the guide could be done.
