This thesis is about organizing a meditation event for students of social services and health care. The length of the event was one week, and it was held at the premises of the library of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, who were the partner in the thesis project. The goal was to share information about meditation and mindfulness and how they affect stress and peace of mind. The meditation event offered the participants a chance to stop in the middle of their busy daily life.
This practice-based thesis resulted in a meditation event. The event was planned and organized on the basis of the theory section of this thesis. The theory part consisted of mindfulness and how to use it, as well as stress, especially chronic stress. The event was planned and formed together with the library event coordinator.
The existing covid-19 pandemic created uncertainty, but it was possible to execute the event as planned. The participants were asked to give feedback anonymously. They gave spoken and written feedback. The event was considered to be relaxing and the area comfortable. The library event coordinator was happy with the event.
A nurse benefits from mindfulness. With the ability to be present and stop, the nurse can provide care of a better quality to the patient. Improved concentration can increase patient safety and may reduce the chance of mistakes. A development idea for the future could be an educational video or guide for the nurses about mindfulness.
