Akustisissa analyyseissa tutkimus on keskittynyt äänen spektrin tutkimiseen.
Äänen akustisen analyysin parametreille on löydetty kuuloaistimusvasteita. Tulevaisuudessa tarvitaan lisää tutkimuksia äänen fysiologisten elementtien yhdistämiseksi akustisen analyysin parametreihin. Äänen tutkimus on viime vuosikymmeninä tuonut paljon lisää työkaluja opettamiseen. Laulaminen on fysiologinen tapahtuma ja lauluääni fysikaalinen ilmiö ja tämän tiedostaminen auttaa viemään opettamista konkreettiseen suuntaan. Akustisten parametrien avulla voisi pyrkiä kehittämään yhä parempaa mittaria, josta voisi tulla opettajan korvien apuri laulunopiskelussa. The purpose of this thesis was to find out the elements of a physiologically optimally produced singing voice and how they appear acoustically. The purpose was to consider whether acoustic analysis could be used more in the future to support singing learning. The work focused on western art music. This thesis is a descriptive literature review in which sources have been selected by the author’s interest. The articles and sources have been compiled from the Oula-Finna database of the library of Oulu University of Applied Sciences and supplemented with Google Scholar searches.
The guidance of a singing student has depended on teacher’s ability to hear elements from singing that require change. Teachers have tended to teach in the same way as they have been taught, and their own experiences as singers have also affected their teaching methods. The terminology used in vocal teaching has been broad.
The basic elements of a physiologically optimally produced sound are breathing that produces the appropriate sound pressure, vocal cords that produce a rich sound and a sound path that modifies the voice in many different ways. Co-operation of these three components is crucial for optimal sound production. One essential aspect in sound production is the appropriate air pressure and air flow rate both in the larynx and the sound path. At the vocal cords the essentials are the functionality of the pitch control in different registers and the power of closing the vocal fold.
Efforts have been made to identify the most important terms that define the sound quality in sound listening analyzes because the terminology has been so wide and variable. No standards have been created so far. In acoustic analyzes the research has focused on the study of the sound spectrum. The spectrum shows the overtones of the sound and formation of formants from which it is possible to deduce the production and quality of the sound. Another key area of research has been vibrato. Recent researches have included perturbations, such as jitter and shimmer both in basic sound and vibrato, which provides additional information on the sound quality.
Auditory responses have been found to the parameters of acoustic analysis. In the future more studies are needed to compare the physiological elements of sound with the parameters of acoustic analysis. The study of singing voice has brought many more tools for teaching in recent decades. Singing is a physiological process and singing voice is a physical phenomenon and awareness of this helps to make teaching more concrete. Acoustic parameters could be used to develop an application that could become an assistant to teacher’s ears in singing.
