The goal of the research was to find out is there a need for a skateboarding hall in Lahti. Another goal was to find out if the potential users of the hall are interested in participating in the design process. The thesis knowledge base was gathered using literature about service design, concept planning and service management.
Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used on the research. Benchmarking of Cube skateboarding hall in Turku gave insight of the shifts, opening hours and visitor count, which were used as a base for drafting the survey. Executive manager of Cube was also interview. Based on the literature and benchmarking a survey was drafted for skateboarders, scooter riders and BMX-bikers of Lahti region. The purpose of the survey was to find out the need for a hall, background information of the respondents, possible shifts, pricing, what the hall should be like and if the respondents are willing to participate in the design process.
The survey revealed that there is a need for a skateboarding hall in Lahti, and that some of the respondents are interested in participating in the design process. The high number of respondents indicate that there is a large group of skateboarders that are missing a place to do their sport in winter.
