Pandemia on pakottanut mukautumaan erilaisiin työn tekemisen tapoihin.
Syy toimistolle tuloon liittyy usein sosiaalisiin tarpeisiin.
Tulevaisuus on hyvä nähdä jatkuvan muutoksen prosessina, jossa tilanteet saattavat muuttua lyhyelläkin aikavälillä. This thesis aims to gain a deeper understanding how to manage physical work environment change. Pandemic will change way of working in short time ans also far in future. Work environments and the way we work have changed radically over the last 100 years. The changes affect both, work life and the content of the work. Change has always been present and change is also a permanent part of the life of organizations. Good change management helps individuals, groups, and organizations in change.
Due to digitalization, the physical workplace is further losing its importance. Work is no longer tied to time or place and the coronavirus pandemic is accelerating this change. The pandemic has forced to adapt different ways of doing. The corona crisis took us to home offices and work environments changed rapidly. With the spread of distance work, there is a question about the importance of the physical work environment and the need for office space in the future.
Documentary analysis was used as a qualitative research method and questionnaire research was used as a quantitative method. In addition, a case study was used to increase understanding of the topic under the study.
The reason for coming to the office is often related to social needs. People want to meet face to face. Corona has shown how important office environments are from a social perspective. It´s challenging to maintain commununality remotely. According to research, the general opinion about distance work is quite positive. Work efficiency has increased and the balancing between work and leisure has become easier. There are fewer disruptions and interruptions in the distance work environment. Also, the level of alertness and well-being of employees is improved. The feeling of detachment from the team and the lack of a work community are challenges. Distance work days might be longer than in normal office work and family relations may suffer. Some days it can feel like nothing can be accomplished. Self-management and work planning are further emphasized. People miss the social side of offices. Corridor and coffee room conversations where you not only talk about business matters, but also get to build a deeper relationship as well as trust with colleagues.
The future is good to see as a process of constant change, where situations may change quickly. Coordination of the digital and physical work environment is in the scope of future work environment planning. There will be significant changes, how the facilities are used, there is no return to the old.
