Yhtenä ESR-hankkeen osatavoitteena on FINGER-toimintamallin jalkauttaminen ReissuEllu-hankkeeseen.
Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli jalkauttaa FINGER-toimintamalli ReissuEllu-hankkeeseen PowerPoint-esityksen avulla kolmessa ReissuEllu-hankkeen pop up -tapahtumassa.
The population in Finland is ageing and therefore memory illnesses have become more common. In South Savo the negative development becomes emphasized since in the region the population is more aged and the elderly people's ability to function is decreased. Memory illnesses induce not only human suffering but also huge costs to society.
The operations model FINGER, which was developed on the basis of The Finnish Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER), is a multiform model for supporting cognitive functioning of the elderly with the aim to prevent or delay the onset of memory illnesses. The diverse model includes nutritional guidance, physical exercise, cognitive training and management of vascular risk factors. The efficient lifestyle change intervention is designed on the basis of the theory which explains health behavior, and the person’s motivation and capability factors in the background are taken into account. Realizing the need for change will require a personally experienced health threat and therefore even the singular intervention can be a starting point to the lifestyle change if the health threat is regarded as personal and the person is at a favourable stage in the change process.
The commissioner of this thesis is the project ReissuEllu - wellbeing on wheels, which is a mobile learning environment that develops well-being. The aim of the project is to increase health and welfare of the inhabitants in the area of South Savo. The project includes an ESF-funded development project, which aims at developing welfare services promoting health and well-being. The project also includes a parallel ERDF project that invests and purchases a mini-bus that delivers well-being services to the area of dispersed settlement. One objective in the ESF-funded project is to implement the FINGER intervention into the ReissuEllu project.
The purpose of the thesis was to implement the FINGER intervention into the ReissuEllu project with the help of a PowerPoint presentation in three pop-up events. In the presentations the participants were given information about the FINGER intervention and about the prevention of memory illnesses with the help of ways of living. After the presentations the participants filled in the questionnaires to find out what kind of new information the participants got related to prevention of memory illnesses and what they were able to do themselves to prevent memory illnesses. At the same time information about the participants' earlier knowledge about the prevention of memory illnesses was obtained.
The women already had more information than the men about the prevention methods of memory illnesses and nearly all the women intended to prevent memory illnesses with the help of ways of life. 73% of the men had the idea of making their lifestyles more favorable for memory health. On the basis of the results it seems that especially the men's consciousness of the significance of the ways of life to the memory illnesses should be considered. In the age groups the differences were also clear: when all of the 30-64-year-olds presented at least one means of preventing memory illnesses, among those aged 65-74 the amount was 93% and in the oldest age group 75%. However, one should remind even the old ones of the significance of the lifestyle factors for the memory health.
