The objective of this thesis was to create a quantitative tool to assist the client in not only reviewing the current events, but also to create structural guidelines for future events. The client of this thesis was the Ruka-Kuusamo Tourism Association. The main development task was to create a questionnaire survey model which enables the measurement and analysis of event quality and customer satisfaction. The final product focuses on two events: NUTS Karhunkierros and Solstice. The theoretical framework of this thesis can be divided into two sections: customer behaviour and customers’ perceived quality are contrasted with the perceptions of the event organizers. The perceptions of the organizers include defining events, event quality and quality development.
The structure of this thesis follows the eight-part process of an investigational development task. The review of the current events is followed by defining the development task and forming the theoretical framework. The thesis culminates in the creation and publication of the final product. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used in the creation of the output. Quantitative methods form the basis of the questionnaire survey model. Meanwhile, the qualitative methods include interviews, observation, benchmarking, and document analysis.
The final product of this thesis is a questionnaire survey model which enables the measurement and analysis of event quality and customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the workload of the client has been mitigated by creating event-specific analysis templates, thus simplifying the information management process. The final product is clearly structured and enables the client to conduct questionnaire surveys from the event planning to further analysis stage.
The final product benefits the client significantly. Despite focusing primarily on NUTS Karhunkierros and Solstice, the conceptual framework can also be used in the context of other events. Another factor emphasizing the advantage of the final product is its novelty: a similar innovation-based development task has not been implemented before.
