Miten Master Schoolin brändi on rakennettu? Miten Master School sijoittuu Turun AMK:n brändihierarkiaan?
This Master’s thesis has been carried out as a development project for the Communication Services of the Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS). The objective of the study was to provide clarity for the present state of the brand architecture and controlling brands at TUAS and to offer a development proposal for brand management.
The thesis was carried out as a case study. The research subject was the development of TUAS Master School which was the outcome of a project that focused on branding and increasing awareness of TUAS Master studies. The research was conducted as content analysis and the research data comprised accumulated documents about TUAS’ activities as well as prior research data. The data was analysed with themes based on theory.
The research problem was to clarify what brand means in TUAS’ context, what kind of good practices can be found for the brand building and how the TUAS’ brand architecture has been built and can be managed. To solve the research problems three research questions concerning the studied case were formed: What is the TUAS Master School’s brand like? How has the brand of TUAS Master School been built? Where is TUAS Master School placed within the TUAS’ brand architecture?
Several theoretical models of brand equity, image, identity, and architecture were used with analysing the research data. The outcome of the study was that TUAS’ Master School isn’t actually a brand or a sub-brand of TUAS but a marketing concept for a product line or category of TUAS master brand. Even though Master School wasn’t a brand the project and launch of the marketing concept was successful and several good practices can be identified.
As an outcome, it also became clear that the current TUAS’ instructions for logos don´t qualify as a brand architecture. Therefore, a four-step process for building the brand architecture, as well as two tools for brand management, were introduced as suggestions to develop TUAS’ brand management.
