Nowadays society exploits the applied sciences as an answer to the multitudes of needs that individuals may experience during their life. The bond between humanity and technology is today undeniable and does not restrict to any field. This study aims to obtain a clear idea of the technology employed within the delicate setting of nursing bachelor education. More thoroughly, this research is carried on the geographical level of Europe and maintains a record of the involved material but exempt itself from comparison since its scope is to analyze and not to confront.
This study also provides a detailed definition of the requirements for nursing education, to identify the needs of European societies and illustrate the possible outcomes for the future. This study is conducted in the form of a narrative review of the already published scientific material, to address the integration of technology that nursing education has faced within the last years. The Semi-Systematic review includes forty-eight scientific articles from four reliable academic databases (ScienceDirect, Theseus, PubMed, and Google Scholar). It follows the critical evaluation as in accordance with the principles of qualitative research, which is carried with the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools and by inductive critical analysis of the content.
The findings of this study imply that the integration of technology within nursing education has been mostly restricted to the simulation-based scenarios that were already adopted in the pursuit of better clinical preparation for future healthcare workers. Still, technology can enhance the learning experience if there is enough background preparation for educators to fill the role. In addition, technology can be used as an answer to fill the vacancies of nursing jobs, since it is highly appreciated by the nowadays students, so, the right implementation within the nursing curricula could possibly allure more students to join the profession. The role of the nurse has evolved from its origins and it is the responsibility of the educators to address this change in the right way, by the alignment of the educative program with the latest trends. If this will happen, nurses will have a chance to remain in the evolutive technological epicenter that European healthcare is facing, and this will contribute to define their role even better in the future.
