Metsä on voimavara.
Perheillä on monia stressin aiheita.
Forests mean a lot for the well-being of people. Ecosystem services describe the well-being that forests provide for people. The health effects are mental, physical, social and also spiritual. The forest is a resource. Green Care NatureEmpowerment services include goal-oriented and guided services in nature-assisted well-being, education and recreation. There are a lot of forests here in Finland, and they are easily available. Going to the forest costs nothing, and there is a unique Everyman´s right which states that one can, for example, go hiking or berry picking in the woods owned by another person.
The Finnish families with children are very diverse and there are many different challenges. Families have many matters to be stressed about. They could possibly benefit from nature-assisted activities but are becoming more and more estranged from the forest because of things like urbanization and digitalization. The forest would be a good partner in raising children, and in preventive healthcare. The aim was to study how the forests can be a resource for Finnish families with children.
A survey and interview study showed that the forest experiences have had a positive effect on people's well-being, and have left them with good memories. Forest trips have been an important thing for families to experience together. Berry and mushroom picking, picnics, and simply just being in the woods were the most memorable family shared forest experiences. Short trips including hiking, and having a picnic in the forest during a good season, were considered the best way to start the family’s joint forest experiences. Obstacles for going on a forest trip can be overcome by, for example, involving all family members in the planning of the trip. Developing professional support to help families getting started would be a worthwhile thing to develop.
