Analyysin perusteella kehittämisen kohteeksi valikoitiin arjen toimintataitojen vahvistaminen.
The number of clients in child welfare is increasing, and attention has been focused more on the methods that institutions use. The new Child Welfare Act contributes to imposing requirements on child welfare units on the content of institutional care.
The thesis was a developmental research work on working life, and its purpose was to describe the methods used by the assignor of the thesis, the Liekki child welfare unit, and to make the content of their operations visible. The aim was a written description of the everyday methods and compare Liekki’s practices to the theory of occupational ther-apy. The theory base was OTIPM and the Canadian model (CMOP-E).
The development activities were carried out as a multi-stage development process in cooperation with the assignor. As a research contribution to the development task was an analysis of the assignor’s current methods of supporting everyday life as well as a lit-erature review to identify the criteria for the methodology. Based on the analysis, the development target was selected to be the operational skills of daily life. The develop-ment work was based on the knowledge base of occupational therapy, literature and research articles.
Based to the development work, a condensed information package in the form of a PowerPoint presentation was created for the assignor. The presentation described the available methods of supporting daily life skills in Liekki and the arguments supporting them. The information package was presented to the assignor's staff and feedback was collected. Based on the feedback, the information package was further modified to bet-ter meet the assignor's needs before its final release.
