Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyö tehtiin E.M. Pekkinen Oy:lle.
The thesis was commissioned by E.M. Pekkinen Oy. As paper plans and documents remain at the background, building information models take on an ever-grater foothold in design and construction in general. Models can be used to monitor work progress and quality control. The use of variety of tools, the examination of the site is made easier and more modern. Using building information models, the work management at the site is currently able, without the help surveyor, to check the site and perform its own quality control. At the same time this enables observing the shortcomings, such as the places of manhole or lamp posts, which as the work have progressed, have remain uninstalled or added to the plans later.
The work was carried out as a literary study by becoming familiar with building information models and by interviewing staff at work sites. The goal of the interviews was the gain information of the experience of using building information models at different sites. The work involves the general use of BIM and its utilization. Building information modelling is a broad concept and cover many aspects of projects. This thesis studies information modelling mainly from the point of view of infrared sites and how information modeling, and its tools can be utilized at the site and the benefit it brings to the management of the site.
However, new tools are expensive and new devices also come with different usage fees. In order to utilize of the use building information models on sites, the benefit needs to outweigh these increased costs. The purpose of the thesis was to explore the use of building information models from a work management perspective and determine the possibilities that building information models offer at the site. This study provided a overview of the experiences of the supervisors and benefits that BIM can offer in working sites. BIM are not exploited to the extent would be possible. Use of models is limited to, review and minimal data retrieval. Using BIM, enhanced production and quality control would be achieved.
BIM should be deployed in each project and utilized in maximum efficiency. Training and using BIM together with 2D plans would make construction more efficient and economical.
