This thesis work was commissioned by Wärtsilä Finland Oy. The main area of the work is FGSS – Fuel Gas Supply Systems. This is a department that works with sales of GVU and LNGPacTM. In this thesis, LNGPacTM is the focus area. The thesis work is written for the purchasing department.
The purpose of the thesis is to explore opportunities for bulk procurement for different components, for two different parts within FGSS. This is done to find a basis for where savings can be grasped as well as how.
The thesis is thus divided into two separate parts, part 1 – small part list, part2 – bulk procurement. These parts are independent of each other.
Part 1 was done by examining the actual list of small parts to find differences compared to reality or components that should be deleted or added.
Part 2 was performed by gathering data from the ERP system SAP to create data sheets that were then examined to find connections and find the components that are procured for at least four of five projects.
The results for part 2 were that nine components can be purchased in bulk and that this would result in a 20% time saving when ordering. This time saving would thus allocate purchasers to devote more time to follow-up on projects and customer contact and would with big probability make the projects faster, become more profitable and give the customer better experience and a smoother delivery of the LNGPacTM.
The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that it was an important part to examine the existing list of small parts as this need had changed. Five components were deleted from the list and nine were added.
