The purpose of the thesis was to study the calibration process of the company's user coordinate systems and to find the factors that make the definition of user coordinate systems to support offline programming.
First section of the thesis focuses theoretically on industrial robotics, coordinate systems used in industrial robotics and the offline programming. The research work was started by getting on touch with the company's current calibration method by performing the definition of a user coordinate system and testing it with a training robot.
In the development work, the company's employees were utilized, to find the alternative calibration methods for examination. During the development work, in-house meetings were held to compare alternative methods and to identify things for improvement in the current method.
As a result of the thesis, an instruction document for user coordinate system design was compiled for the company's mechanical designers. With the help of the document it is possible to take into account the features required for user coordinate systems in the design of the systems. In addition, a storage solution was developed to keep the calibration equipment stored at the customer's facility.
