Tiivistelmä
Sairaaloiden vähentäessä osastopaikkoja säästötoimintojen vuoksi on päiväkirurgian ohelle syntynyt uusi toimintamalli, jossa potilas kotiutuu 23h sisällä leikkauksesta.
As hospitals are reducing ward space due to cost-saving operations, a new approach has emerged alongside day surgery, where the patient is discharged within 23 hours of sur-gery. The purpose of this treatment model is to increase the safety and quality of patient care. In March 2018, the Central Hospital of Central Finland launched a new home dis-charge unit where the patient can return home after surgery on the following morning at the latest. The discharge unit in the Central Hospital is called Herko.
The purpose of the thesis was to carry out a skills survey for the nursing staff working at the Herko discharge unit. The aim was that the results of the thesis would enable the assignor of the thesis to develop the skills of the discharge nursing staff, the efficiency of the ward and the smoothness of the discharge process especially with the prospect of the new hospital Nova.
The data for the thesis was collected by using an online Webropol survey with 32 ques-tions. The questionnaire was sent to 20 nurses of the discharge unit. The response rate of the survey was 70%. The data were analyzed using a quantitative method. The open questions served as elaborations of the quantitative results.
According to the results, most of the nurses found their skills good. The respondents hoped for further training in more specialized areas and, in general, the updating of their competence by means of in-service training. Among other things, the congestion of pa-tients in the afternoons and the placement of care and patient instructions in illogical places were considered troublesome.
