Tiivistelmä
Empowering Residential Child Care through Interprofessional Training (ERCCI) on kolmivuotinen viiden eurooppalaisen korkeakoulun yhteistyöprojekti. Rahoitus projektiin tulee Erasmukselta. Projekti toteutetaan samaan aikaan Espanjassa, Italiassa, Liettuassa, Saksassa ja Suomessa. Projektin tarkoitus on kehittää lastensuojelun sijaishuollon ammattilaisten koulutusta sekä osaamista Euroopassa. ERCCI-projektin tuotos tulee olemaan syksyllä 2021 julkaistava Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).
Empowering Residential Child Care through Interprofessional Training (ERCCI) is a three-year project funded by the Erasmus. ERCCI is a co-operation between five universities in Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania and Spain. The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of education and training to strenghten the expertise of professionals working in residential child care (RCC) in Europe. The objective of the ERCCI project is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which will be launched in the fall of 2021. The MOOC will provide the professionals with an opportunity to develop their expertise and update their knowledge on RCC.
The need for the project rose from the concerns linked to the expertise of the professionals, insufficient training and the high turnover rate of the professionals working in RCC. The expertise and competence needs of the professionals in RCC is a little researched topic. Additionally, the objective of the ERCCI project is to map the RCC community, systems and practices in Europe.
This research project was executed in the first phase of the ERCCI project. The purpose of the research project was to provide ERCCI with information on the expertise, competence needs and skill gaps of the professionals in RCC in Finland, based on the views of the directors. The objective of the research project was to create the competence profile and map the educational needs of professionals in RCC in Finland.
The research method was the focus group interview. There were nine interviewees. The interviewees worked as directors in RCC in Southwest, Satakunta and Tampere Region in Finland. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed. The results were delivered to the ERCCI project for a European summary and the development of the MOOC.
The directors emphasized that the professionals in RCC work through their own persona, the professional self. In their opinion the education should focus on developing the professional self. The directors saw that the mindset of a professional is a crucial factor in defining how a professional performs their work. The directors also underlined the importance of knowledge on certain work methods and RCC processes, such as child welfare law, child development and professional parenting. Further research could concentrate on exploring the views’ of children and families on the educational needs of the professionals working in RCC or developing and organizing the implementation of a locally or nationally mutual work orientation or method in RCC in Finland.
