Opinnäytetyön aihe on imeväisikäisen gastroesofageaalinen refluksitauti.

Eija Mäkinen Johanna Reivinen Riikka Saarikko Gastroesophageal reflux diase in infants 43 pages and 2 appendices February, 2020 Diaconia University of Applied Sciences Bachelor`s degree programme in Health Care Nursing (DIAK degree programme)
The subject of this thesis is gastroesophageal reflux disease in infants. The aim of the thesis was to create a guide for the child health clinics of the Central Finland Health Care District. The subject was determined based on our own interests as well as the needs of the co-operation partner.
The aim was to increase awareness of the many manifestations of the illness, the disadvantages and the effect on the child, and the life of the whole family. The thesis attempted to answer the question: “what is normal regurgitation and what is caused by illness”. The aim for professional growth was also to learn to seek information from various databases and to use it in working life to be able to bring more understanding and support to parents as a nurse.
The literature review consisted of database results, and manually searching the Internet and literature. While working on the thesis it was found that there was not very much literature or collected research data on the subject in Finnish.
The emphasis of this thesis is on development work, and a guide on infant gastroesophageal reflux disease was created based on it. Important subjects to include were also discussed with a Facebook group maintained by Refluxilapset ry. The guide was created based on the wishes of the peer support group and the child health clinic staff. The end result contains information collected from the source material about the clinical presentation, symptoms, and self-care. Some useful online links and literature were also added. It was decided that the guide would be printable and A4-size.
Written and oral feedback about the guide was given by the child health clinic staff, and it was approved by the child health clinic doctor. The guide was found to be useful in providing concrete information to parents in addition to orally provided information.
Keywords: Gastroesophageal reflux, infant and regurgitation
