Haluttiin luoda työkalu, jotta pelin luominen helpottuisi ilman aktiivista ohjelmoijaa.
Lopputulokseen toimeksiantaja oli tyytyväinen, vaikkakin tiukkojen aikarajoitteiden vuoksi myytävä osuus jouduttiin jättämään pois. Pelin sisällön tuottaminen nopeutui sekä helppokäyttöinen inventaariojärjestelmä saatiin luotua. The goal of this thesis was to create an inventory system in Unreal Engine 4, using a visual scripting system called Blueprint. The inventory system was developed for a Finnish company which is working on a video game. In addition, the inventory system was planned to be sold on the Unreal Engine Marketplace for other game developers.
The objective was to document the features of all the different components that make up the system as a whole, as well as how the design decisions set by From Ashes Ltd affected the development. A further goal was to study inventories of popular games in similar genres to find inspiration in their designs. However, the purpose was not to create a ‘superior’ interface from the players perspective, but instead build a system that allows the game developers to create new gameplay content quickly.
As a result, the content creation pipeline was successfully accelerated and an easy to use inventory system was created. The Unreal Engine Marketplace component had to be discarded, due to the tight deadline set by From Ashes Ltd.
