Opinnäytetyön tuotosten eli opetusvideoiden kestot vaihtelivat alle kolmesta minuutista hieman yli kahdeksaan minuuttiin. Escherichia coli bacteria are part of the human gastrointestinal tract’s normal flora. They are classified as gram negative rods. The most common infections caused by E. coli are urinary tract infections, which can also lead to septicemia. Other infections caused by E. coli are gastroenteritis, surgical infections and neonatal meningitis.
The client organization of this thesis was Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The purpose of the thesis was to develop educational videos for biomedical laboratory scientist students at Savonia University of Applied Sciences for determining Escherichia coli bacteria from blood and urine samples. The goal of the thesis was to support biomedical laboratory technologist students’ learning in clinical microbiology laboratory classes. The thesis consists of a written report and six educational videos and their scripts. The educational videos can be viewed on Moodle and ThingLink 360 virtual education environments during the clinical microbiology course.
The written report consists of the inoculation techniques, identification tests, susceptibility tests and gram staining procedure taught in the videos. In addition, the report contains theoretical information on Escherichia coli bacteria and bacteria at a general level, the criteria for a good educational video and the factors that affect one’s learning. The duration of the videos varies between three and eight minutes.
