Tiivistelmä
Lastensuojelun kehittyessä yhä lapsilähtöisemmäksi lasten osallisuuden toteutumiseen kiinnitetään enemmän huomiota. Osallisuuden toteutumisella on merkitystä myös lasten kokemukseen sijaishuollon laadusta. Tutkimuksellisen opinnäytetyömme tavoitteena oli selvittää Turun kaupungin sijaishuollon yksikössä asuvien yli 12-vuotiaiden kokemuksia lastenkodin laadusta heidän arkisten kokemustensa kautta.
Tutkimuksemme on toteutettu terapeuttisen laitoskasvatuksen mallinnukseen soveltuvaa yhteisön kokemuspeliä sekä strukturoitua kyselylomaketta käyttäen. Tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin kokemuspelin kolmen ennalta määritellyn pääteeman mukaisesti, mutta tulokset on opinnäytetyössämme raportoitu sijaishuollon arjen osa-alueita silmällä pitäen. Tutkimusaineistomme muodostui Turun kaupungin sijaishuollon yksikön kuudesta yli 12-vuotiaasta vapaaehtoisesta.
Tutkimuksessamme ilmeni, että sijaishuollon lapset kokevat omiin asioihinsa vaikuttamisen tärkeänä. Tarkisteltaessa sijaishuollon laatua sijoitetun lapsen näkökulmasta, ohjaajilla vaikutti olevan suuri rooli lapsen kokemuksissa.
As a child protection field has developed and become more and more child orientated, it has also become more meaningful to pay attention to the participation of the children and their point of views in this area. The participation of children is straight related to the children’s experience about the quality of the everyday life in children’s homes they live in. In our bachelor’s thesis, including the study part, we wanted to clear out how the children (over 12 years) can experience and feel their living in one of the children’s homes in the city of Turku.
In this study we used specific board game, which is developed to the use of a therapeutic way of raising children in child protection facilities. In addition to this method, we used structured questionnaire. Even though the study material was collected according to the three, predefined main themes of the board game, the results of the study were reported with all relevant themes related to everyday life in children’s homes. The participation group included six free-willing 12- year-olds living in the children’s home.
Our study resulted, that those children living in one of the children’s homes in the city of Turku, feel important to be a part of decision making when it comes to their own lives. It seems to be that counselors working at children’s home tend to have a great impression on children’s experiences. Counselors have a strong emphasis on acting in accordance with the law, but the study also resulted, that only few children were aware of what the law requires of the adults and what it guarantees to them. Results also showed how common the experience of loneliness is for those children.
Our study also resulted, that children have their own point of views when it comes to everyday life and the life quality in children’s home. It is necessary to improve the methods of substitute care in a way that it respects the child’s involvement. Children’s point of views should be used in the field of the development work.
