Työn tilaajana on Sopimusvuori ry.
Työssä käytetyt teemat nousivat selkeästi esiin haastatteluvastauksissa. Monelle jäsenelle Walonkulma on avainasemassa merkityksellisen elämän rakentamisessa. The purpose of this thesis was to explore how the recovery orientation shows in the everyday life of Walonkulma Clubhouse members. The recovery-oriented model is a frame of reference that underpins the activities and thinking, and it focuses on the individual's own resources, participation, hope and meaning. Recovery is a personal process where the person’s own strengths and resources are used to achieve the most meaningful life, despite limitations induced by a mental disorder.
The thesis uses the recovery orientation model of the Central Association of Finnish Social Psychiatric Organisations. The key aspects of recovery are hope, empowerment, encounters and participation, and they are also the basic elements of a meaningful life. The thesis was implemented as a qualitative study and the data were collected by using a focused interview. Seventeen of Walonkulma Clubhouse members were interviewed. The obtained data were classified and analyzed thematically using the model of recovery orientation. The thesis was commissioned by the mental health rehabilitation association Sopimusvuori.
The themes used in the thesis clearly emerged in the interview responses. For many members, the Clubhouse plays a major role in building a meaningful life. As numerous studies have found that the clubhouse activities can achieve financial savings, the recovery orientation and the clubhouses may also be of great economic importance – especially since the amount of mental health problems in Finland has increased.
