Taiteilijan työnkuvaa tutkin jungilaisen arkkityyppisen ajattelun avulla.
Ammennan omasta taiteellisesta työskentelystäni, jonka suhteutan käsitetaiteen lisäksi tila/aika -taiteeseen. Kuvaan omaa luovaa prosessiani neljän videotaideteoksen kautta: ensimmäinen sukeltaa suggestion kautta mielentiloihin, toinen tutkii nähdyksi ja näkeväksi tulemisen tärkeyttä, kolmas sisältää kehollisuuden elementin tanssin kautta ja neljäs visualisoi tunne-energiaa algoritmisen esteetikan ja käyttöliittymän avulla. Oman työskentelyni kautta taiteilijuus on minulle poikkitaiteellinen toiminnan muoto, jonka pohjalla vaikuttaa intentioni palvella luovan työn keinoin. Ehdotan vastapainoksi vanhalle taiteilijan työn egoistiselle eetoksella altruistista synergisestä luovaa prosessia suuntana kohti tulevaisuuden taiteilijuutta. Tuon esiin tunnetyön tärkeyden taiteilijan työnkuvassa ja kritisoin vallalla ollutta rajattomuuden ja vuodattamisen kulttuuria.
Sielunpeiliobjekti käsitteenä on poeettinen hypoteesi, josta aukeaa monia mahdollisia tutkimuksellisia suuntia. This thesis creates the concept of soul-reflecting object. Soul-reflecting object as a concept describes the impact of artwork on a viewer as a form of internal interaction. The influence of art is seen to reach viewers core on overlapping levels of body, mind, emotions and soul. Duty of professional artist is sketched with Jungian archetype by exploring the role of artist in society in historical perspective from archaic community to modern and future society as manufacturer of soul-reflecting objects.
This thesis examined the power of art by defining experiencing artwork as a viewers inner encounter and a moment of self-reflection. This idea is reflected on the sources of empathy and vulnerability research. The outcome emphasises the importance of vulnerability and boundaries when it comes to both creating and experiencing art. The insight is based on artist’s own creative process, which relates to conceptual and space/time art. The artistic process is described by four video artworks: one that has the element of body with dance, one that dives into the suggestive state of mind, one that explores the importance of being seen and becoming a seer and one that visualizes personal energy with the aesthetics of algorithms and a user interface.
Through artist’s own work art is perceived as multidisciplinary act with mission to serve other people and the society. This thesis suggests the old traditional ethos of egoistic artist to be balanced in the modern day with new kind of altruistic synergetic intention of doing art and consequently to redefine the role of professional artist in society. The importance of emotional labour in the profession of modern artist is presented and the prevailing culture of breaking boundaries in the field of fine arts is criticized.
Soul-reflecting object as a concept is a poetic hypothesis. To examin the experience of art as a moment of inner interaction opens multiple directions to further research.
