Work well-being is a current topic and issues in different fields are raising. Hospitality industry is demanding and high labour turnover is increasing the work exhaustion among employees of the field. As the roles of organization members have changed and so have the methods of taking care of their well-being. Work communities need more humane touch, communication, trust and time for self-discovery. Work communities should support
employees well-being and leaders should take time for self-care in able to keep the work communities safe and healthy.
The aim of the thesis is to give insights for hospitality leaders how to develop their emotional intelligence and by that way increase the work community well-being. The main focus of the thesis is to focus on self-development methods. The goal of the framework is to understand the different factors of well-being, leading and how to develop emotional intelligence
The thesis is made as product type thesis and student created self-development plan as an outcome. The plan is based on the framework, interviews with employees of the field and 1 mindfulness/ well-being expert to understand more clearly some of the challenges and solutions when it comes to work well-being. During the drafting phase student asked feedback from the workers of the field. Based on the feedback’s the final product was born which aim is to help leaders to learn ways to self-develop their well-being, observe and get knowledge of the work community challenges. The subject is current and important since the work well-being challenges are only raising, causing high labour turnover and work exhaustion among the employees.
7 days for self - self-development plan gives seven daily task for hospitality leaders which combines the professional and personal well-being. Tasks help leader to develop their emotional intelligence and recognizing the challenges in their life and career. Can be assumed that regular self-development practices help individuals to recognize and prevent occurring challenges in work- and private life. As a conclusion can be said that self-development practices help individual to improve their work well-being and communication skills.
