Tutkimus toteutettiin kvantitatiivisena kyselytutkimuksena joensuulaisille korkeakouluopiskelijoille. Kysely toteutettiin Webropol-järjestelmällä. Kyselyn perusjoukon muodosti 246 vastaajaa.
The purpose of this thesis was to explore what are the reasons for going to basketball game events. The purpose was to provide information for the commissioning party from the spectator point of view and to find possible improvement and development ideas. The aim was to explore how extended marketing mix can be implemented in game event marketing.
The theoretical part of the thesis consists of extended marketing mix, game event marketing, marketing on the different media platforms and the utilization of social media. The extended marketing mix includes the original principle of 4 P’s and three additional elements, which are people, processes and physical evidence. The second theoretical part covers traditional marketing and digital marketing.
The study was carried out as a quantitative survey with a questionnaire sent to higher education students in Joensuu. The survey was conducted by using the Webropol system. Altogether 246 people responded to the questionnaire survey.
The results of the survey revealed that the most significant factor contributing to the attendance in game events was the lack of accompanying persons. This was true with the people who had attended as well as with those who had not attended basketball game events. This problem is solved by offering tickets for couples of pairs of friends. According to the survey results, the game event marketing had not fully reached the target group. The majority of the target group was not aware of the price of the student ticket. The commissioner can use the results of this thesis to develop comprehensive game events.
