Tiivistelmä
The topic of this product-oriented BBA thesis is personal branding and its significance in job search. The product of the thesis is an online portfolio. The objective of the portfolio is to showcase the author’s professional skills and to assist in personal branding, providing an advantage in the job search process. The thesis is commissioned by Creative Agency Krea of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.
This BBA thesis addresses the concept of personal branding and how a personal brand can be developed. The framework focuses on the professional benefits of personal branding with specific focus on building a personal brand online. Qualitative research was conducted to obtain knowledge of job search and employment. Together with theoretical sources, the findings of the qualitative research were used to help develop the portfolio and personal brand.
The planning of the thesis and the product were divided into two parts: thesis planning and portfolio planning. The thesis planning process describes the project plan as a whole, whereas the portfolio planning process explains how theory was used to support the preparation of the product. The portfolio planning process is dependent on both personal objectives and the needs of the target personas of the portfolio. These factors are analysed and explained before presenting the actual product.
The implementation of the portfolio is presented with screenshots that showcase the finished website comprehensively. The reasoning behind the decisions made concerning the structure and design of the product is explained and justified.
The end result is a functional and professional portfolio that strengthens the author’s personal brand. The discussion critically evaluates the portfolio and measures its success by comparing the end result with the objectives set for the product. As the portfolio requires continuous development and management, further actions and development proposals are presented. The report is concluded with an assessment of the author’s personal learning and professional development during the BBA thesis process.
