Tiivistelmä
This thesis identifies and analyses which circular economy business models were used in a trial conducted by a company that wishes to stay anonymous. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the circular economy business models that were used in the trial to make the business case of the trial stronger for future use, as well as to help the company to use the circular economy business models in other ventures. Based on the analysis of the identified circular economy business models and theoretical framework, conclusions and recommendations are made.
The theoretical framework of this thesis first introduces, the theory and need for circular economy, after which the circular economy business models are discussed in detail. This helps the author to identify and show the business models that have been implemented in the trial.
The research methods that are used for this thesis are qualitative research and secondary research. Secondary data was collected from websites, articles and books. One interview was held to gain more knowledge on the goals and creation process of the trial. The results and key findings of the empirical research are presented at the end of the thesis.
The author found that one circular economy business model was implemented more often than the other four, two were implanted to some degree and two were not implemented at all. The business model that was implemented the most made it possible for the trial to be profitable and work in a way that it can be incorporated as a permanent business process for Company x. The other business models support the trial or have other possibilities in the company outside of the trial. The author recommends the commissioning company to implement circular economy business models in its current operations as well as include them in new ventures.
