Tiivistelmä
Tämän opinnäytetyön aiheena on bränditutkimus, jonka toimeksiantaja toimii Osuuskunta Maitomaa. Maitomaa on suonenjokelainen Suomen kolmanneksi suurin meijeri, joka valmistaa omien tuotteidensa lisäksi sopimusvalmistustuotteita muun muassa Olville. Maitomaan omien tuotteiden brändi on nimeltään Suonenjoen.
Laku Tonkan osalta yksi kolmasosa vastaajista tunnisti pakkauksen.
The topic of this thesis project is a brand survey made for Osuuskunta Maitomaa. Maitomaa is the third largest dairy in Finland, located in Suonenjoki. Maitomaa produces their own dairy products and for example contracts manufacturing products to Olvi among others. Their own brand is called Suonenjoen. The primary purpose of this study is to examine the level of recognition of Maitomaa, Suonenjoen and Laku Tonkka. Laku Tonkka is one of Suonenjoen’s products. In addition, a further aim of the study is also to investigate what kind of thoughts and emotions the aforementioned brands created in consumers. Moreover, this research makes an attempt to provide an expanded perspective to business development from the customers’ point of view.
The thesis research consists of the theoretical part, the test result review and the reflection. The theoretical part covers the concept of a brand, brand building and how it is a part of a business plan. The research results are reviewed in the order of questions by using tables. The last paragraph of the report consists of the conclusions from the research results and the evaluation of the thesis research conducted.
The research was implemented as a quantitative survey for the students and staff of Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The survey was emailed to them. It was executed with the Webropol survey tool with the commissioner’s assistance. To reach the target set, the survey consisted of nineteen multiple-choice and open questions. The questions dealt with the recognition of the brands mentioned above and emotions and images evoked by them. In total, 500 people responded to the survey.
The research results indicated that Maitomaa is a well-known brand and mostly evokes positive thoughts among consumers. Local food, locality and the brand being Savonian were frequently raised topics by the respondents. For Suonenjoen, the recognition of the brand was not that significant, and the name was mixed up with the municipality called Suonenjoki. However, the emotions and images associated with the brand were quite positive. As for Laku Tonkka, a third of respondents recognised the packaging of the product.
In conclusion, the recognition of Suonenjoen is nowhere near the same level compared to Maitomaa and the visibility needs more investment. Based on the results of the study, it can be recommended to emphasize nationality and localism in marketing in order to create a relationship with consumers. The use of the Savonian dialect in advertising evoked conflicting feelings. There is a possibility that people not living in Savonia do not appreciate the Savonian dialect like the locals do. The use of the dialect plays a big role in Maitomaa’s brand but limiting it in some cases could be worth trying, especially in the advertising targeted to non-local residents. In this way, consumers out of the town would not feel so detached from the brand. On the other hand, a dialect may also be cherished and should never be completely abandoned.
