Four kinds of new compounds, namely, methyl-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate, ethyl-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate, n-propyl-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate and i-propyl-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate, have been generated, which were structurally characterized by UV-Vis spectra, IR spectra and photoluminescent spectra. These compounds reveal a one-dimensional (1D) structure, which will be further extended to a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework via a variety of hydrogen bonds, π⋯π interactions and C-H⋯π interactions and so on. The photoluminescent properties of compounds 1-4 were investigated in the solid state at room temperature and meanwhile, in ethanol solution. While the UV-Vis spectra of compounds 1-4 was carried out in ethanol solution.
