The aim of the research is to examine the potential of East Timor as a holiday destination for Finnish travelers. The study is conducted by qualitative content analysis and the material is collected from literary and online sources, observation as a research method was also used to some extent. As a travel destination East Timor is yet very unknown and only the more experienced travelers find their way there. The destination has a great potential for tourism as long as it is utilized in a sustainable manner.
By implementing the analysis tool created by Kai-Veikko Vuoristo the potential of East Timor as a tourism destination is examined in this work. The tool comprises of four different factors to be evaluated: location and physical environment, cultural environment, economic environment and political environment. The destination analysis is done for mandator Aventura Tour Operator Ltd.
As a result, a proposition of a travel package was crafted for Aventura as found out that East Timor could be encouraged as a future destination for the operator. East Timor was proven to be potential destination for Aventura as it would be a new, exotic destination for their selection. Potential customers can be identified in their client base already and East Timor was discovered to have a lot of attractiveness which the more traditional destinations are losing as they are over-crowded with travelers.
