Kolmannen sektorin rooli palvelujen tarjoajana on kasvanut.
Prototyypin avulla testattiin, miten yrittäjät suhtautuvat verkostoitumiseen sovelluksen avulla. Sovellus koettiin hyödyllisenä apuna verkostoitumiseen ja hyvänä ominaisuutena pidettiin etenkin mahdollisuutta kysyä sovelluksen avulla neuvoa yrittäjyyteen liittyvissä asioissa muilta kanssayrittäjiltä tai järjestön lakiasiantuntijoilta. The purpose of the thesis was to develop the membership experience for young entrepreneurs based on customer dominant logic. The thesis was commissioned by The Finnish Federation of Entrepreneurs. The federation’s new strategy addresses the importance of getting more young entrepreneurs to join the federation as members. The first development task was to define the value bringing elements in the membership for young entrepreneurs. Based on that knowledge, in the second phase of the design project, the concept of mobile application supporting entrepreneurs mutual networking was developed and tested.
The knowledge base of the thesis is divided in three sections: describing the change factors influencing third sector organisations, theory on social capital and understanding the value formation and service innovation from the perspective of customer, and service dominant logic of business. The role of service provider has become more relevant for third sector organisations. Simultaneously the community characters and the ways to participate in society have changed. The importance of social capital has increased in a network society. The entrepreneurship networks and communities also have an important role in an entrepreneur’s life as a social support network and as means to develop one’s own business. The theories of customer and service dominant logics were used to understand the value formation in a customer’s world. The value-based model of service innovation was used as a framework in the design process.
Service design was used as a method in the project and the process followed the Double Diamond -model. The actual design task was defined after the research base of the project. Codesign and interviews were used as methods in every phase of the design project. Three separate workshops were organized where the participators were employees and managers from different units and young entrepreneurs whose roles varied based on their level of involvement in the organization (active to non-active members). Interviews were used to deepen the understanding of the needs and wants of the young entrepreneurs. In addition, the prototype of the networking application was tested with user interviews.
According to the results of the design process, collegiality and solidarity were important values for young entrepreneurs. Networking had an important role for young entrepreneurs as a way of getting social support from others, developing one’s own business and sharing knowledge. Mentoring was also considered important. The young entrepreneurs who were active members in the organization stressed the importance of active engagement, transparency and more direct ways of communication. Digital services were considered as ways to improve communication and engagement between the members and the organization. The idea of digital networking tool was presented to make networking easier for young entrepreneurs in a larger scale. With mobile application, networking would not be limited to locally organized events for entrepreneurs. The prototype of a mobile application was developed and tested with real users. According to the results, users found the application useful, especially the features that would enhance knowledge sharing and getting legal advice.
