This thesis discusses the effect of two commercial coatings, VHT Flameproof and Tech Line Black Satin, on the thermal air and thermal radiation surrounding the thermal load and heat. The research focuses on the inspection of the turbochargers hot side housing, which gives a clear idea of the possible functioning of the coatings. The coating takes place on the outer surface of the pieces. Testing is performed on a test bench by controlling the heated air flow through the hot side housing.
The effect of the measurement area environment on the measurement itself is minimized. The work deals with the effect of thermal radiation on the heat load on the engine compartment, as well as the improvement in efficiency resulting from its reduction. The simplest items to utilize the coating are the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger hot side components. This work also compares coatings to conventional heat plates and wrappers and considers the best coating method. Temperature measurements are performed from standardized points with a thermal camera and by thermocouple analyzing inlet and outlet heat.
Based on the results of the tests carried out, the significance of coatings for reducing heat radiation was less than expected. Significant differences could not be detected through direct thermal imaging or indirect reflection measurements.
