Sovelluksen tavoitteena on kannustaa potilasta omahoitoon.
Kyselylomakkeet jaettiin sairaalassa potilaille leikkauksesta kotiutuessa. Aineisto analysoitiin SPSS -tilasto-ohjelmalla.
Kyselylomakkeita jaettiin 229 kappaletta, joista palautui 102.
In December 2017, Central Finland Health Care District decided to introduce a mobile application called “Tekonivel KSSHP” in order to support verbal and written education for hip and knee replacement surgery patients. The patients can prepare independently for the surgery as well as for the pre- and postoperative issues with the help of the application. The application contains evidence-based nursing information, video animations and remainders. The aim is to encourage patients to self-management.
The purpose of the thesis was to obtain information on the usability of the application in educating hip and knee replacement surgery patients. User experiences, pros and cons, the contents of the application as well as patients’ self-management issues were collected in a questionnaire between 1 Sept. and 31 Nov. 2018. Questionnaires were distributed to the patients at the hospital after surgery. The data was analysed using the SPSS program.
Out of the 229 questionnaires, 102 came back, and 35 % of the respondents had used the application. The average age of the patients who had uploaded the application was 61 years, and the average age of those who had not uploaded it was 71 years. Those who had used it reported that it had helped them in preparing for the surgery and post-operative care. They were satisfied with the application and recommended it to patients of their age as well as friends and relatives. Almost all who had uploaded the application had watched the videos and followed the instructions on exercise. The most common reasons for not using the application included not having a smart phone (39%), lack of interest in any mobile applications (29%) and unawareness of the possibility to upload it (18%). Encouragement by health care professionals to use the application seemed to increase its use.
The results of the thesis can be utilized in the guidance of surgical patients as well as in the development and assessment of mobile applications for patient education
