The cerebrovascular disorder such as cerebral infarct, cerebral hemorrhage and the intracerebral hemorrhage are the third most common cause of death. About 24 000 persons suffer from with the cerebrovascular disorder which means every day more than 60 persons become ill. The cerebrovascular disorders are a time critical patient group because the prognosis completely depends on the speed of the care. The entrance to the care is accelerated by the early identification of symptoms, by the activation of the emergency care and by quick transport to the care. ABCDE method can be used to identify the symptoms. The method ensures that nothing important is not forgotten from research. It can be used in the critical patient’s evaluation. The method can be adapted to all emergencies. The patient is examined in order: airway, breathing, circulation, disability and exposure. The purpose of this thesis was to gather information about the symptoms of cerebrovascular disorders and to describe the ABCDE approach which can be fast used to examine a neurological patient.
This thesis had a functional character and included making of the educational video for Turku University of Applied Sciences. The goal was that with the help of the video a nurse student can develop skills for examining a neurological patient so that identifying an acute cerebrovascular disorder becomes easier. This thesis was commissioned by Turku University of Applied Sciences.
Based on the feedback the educational video supported the learning or brought a good repetition. The students learn to identify the symptoms of the cerebrovascular disorders and developed their skills in the examining of the patient according to the ABCDE method. The students were satisfied with the video.
