Sustainability of infrastructures is acknowledged to be a global problem that requires a complex solution. To implement sustainability practices over the lifecycle of an infrastruc-ture, its entities are to be studied both separately and in conjunction with each other. Bridg-es are the key elements of transportation infrastructure and their sustainability is not yet paid sufficient attention to. The aim of this thesis is to develop a bridge sustainability rating sys-tem and to bring in a Building Information Modeling-based process that supports it. Based on the literature studies, bridge sustainability assessment system was elaborated and suggested to be performed with Industry Foundation Classes data standard. As a result, it was established that the Industry Foundation Classes standard has a perspective to be a plat-form for the sustainability analysis of a bridge. This final year project can be used as a con-cept by both environmental and construction professionals to endorse sustainability of a bridge over entire lifecycle.
