Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on apulaisohjaajan rooli suhteessa työryhmän dynamiikkaan lyhyissä pienen budjetin AV-tuotannoissa.
Tällöin kuvauksiin tullessa työryhmällä on ymmärrys tuotannon toiminnasta.
Pientuotannoissa tyypillisin ohjaajan ja työryhmän välinen konflikti on tilanne, jossa ohjaajan visio on jyrätä työryhmän hyvinvoinnin. Apulaisohjaajan työn ydin on auttaa ohjaajaa saavuttamaan visionsa parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla, mutta työryhmän oikeuksia polkematta. This thesis is about the role of the assistant director in relation to the dynamic of the crew in smallscale AV productions. The topic is divided into three: the assistant director’s relationship with the director, the assistant director’s relationship with the crew, and conflicts between these two relationships.
The sources used are the author’s analyses of her past experiences along with other theses written on assistant directing.
The main responsibilities of an assistant director are the planning and managing of the shooting schedule as well as leading the shoot. The work takes place between the director responsible for the artistic output, and the crew bringing the director’s vision to life. The assistant director is an extension of the director as well as a part of the crew. This thesis posits that it is then an advantage for the assistant director to be aware of their position and their potential effect on crew dynamics.
During preproduction, the assistant director and the director should discuss the latter’s wishes regarding the split of responsibilities between them. Open communication between them benefits the entire production as it allows the assistant director to offer the kind of support that director needs. The assistant director must also create a relationship with the crew during preproduction and create a hierarchy of communication that inter-crew relationships can be built upon. This way, the crew will understand how the production works when shooting begins.
In small productions, a typical conflict between the director and the crew arises from situations where artistic vision is put ahead of the crew’s wellbeing. The core of the work of the assistant director is to help the director achieve their vision without infringing on the crew’s rights.
