Tutkimus toteutettiin kahdeksan viikon ajan helmi- maaliskuussa 2018. Aineistonkeruumenetelminä käytettiin viikoittaista Pulssimittari-kyselylomaketta sekä aktiivisuusrannekkeita. Kyselylomakkeen avulla kartoitettiin tietoa pitkäaikaistyöttömien subjektiivisista kokemuksista liikunnan määrästä ja koetusta tyytyväisyydestä siihen, verkostoitumisesta, työpaikan hausta sekä aktiivisuusrannekkeen käytöstä. Objektiivista tietoa osallistujien fyysisestä aktiivisuudesta saatiin aktiivisuusrannekkeen avulla. Tutkimusdataa analysoitiin määrällisillä- sekä laadullisilla menetelmillä.
Tutkimustuloksina nuoremmat pitkäaikaistyöttömät liikkuivat ja hakivat työpaikkoja vanhempia pitkäaikaistyöttömiä enemmän. Vaikka vanhemmat pitkäaikaistyöttömät liikkuivat vähemmän, liikunta tuotti heille enemmän hyvää mieltä ja he olivat aktiivisuusrannekkeen käyttöön motivoituneempia.
The study was implemented in collaboration with Kuntoutussäätiö’s Kuntouttavan työn uud-istajat (KUTU) -project. The goal of this study was to investigate the connection between physical activity of middle-aged and young, long-term unemployed adults and activities that promote becoming employed and networking in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The results of the study were hoped to generate new information for working life about physical activity, networking and services that promote the employability of the long-term unemployed persons.
The target group of the study consisted of 17 long-term unemployed persons. Seven of them were between the ages of 21 and 39, and ten were 40-60 years old. The study took place between February and March of 2018, in the course of eight weeks in total. The methods of data acquisition used in the study were a weekly Pulse Meter-questionnaire and activity wristbands. With the help of the questionnaire, subjective information from the target group was collected about the amount of exercise and the respondents’ satis-faction with it, networking, job search and the use of the activity wristband. The wrist-bands gave objective information about the target groups’ physical activity. The data of the study was analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative methods.
According to the results, the younger long-term unemployed were more physically active and searched more jobs when compared to the older participants of the study. Even though the older group exercised less, they seemed to enjoy physical activity more, and they were also more motivated to use the activity wristbands. The middle-aged partici-pants turned out to be better at networking. In conclusion, it can be stated that there are connections between physical activity and activities that promote employability and net-working. A further development idea could be to examine the connections between physical activity and activities that promote employability from the perspective of gender and educational level differences.
