The Bachelor’s thesis is a continuation of the project of Skärgårdsliv: Participative data collection methods among families with children. The argument of the subject selection is to work out a qualitative interview method at a distance with participative data collection methods among families with children. To increase opportunities for participation in the archipelago then distance work is a good method and in social work includes further competence which includes the use of modern technology, which has motivated the development of distance interview method.
The method is planned to be used in a future project for data collection in the subject of health and welfare among families with children in Turku archipelago. The subject has been defined into qualitative interview with Skype as a tool.
The questions for the work are as follows: Are distance interview a participation method for families with children and what do you need to consider when you perform an interview like that? Which themes around health and welfare can be discussed online considering privacy and data security?
The method is tested with two families with children to develop the process and interview questions to a manual.
The result of the work is a manual to facilitate the use of the method. The method is suitable to use in interviews at a distance. The development need for continued use of the method for future work within the same project has been identified. There are also opportunities to use the method in other developments projects.
