The objective of this thesis is to explore the employees’ perceptions on factors of work well-being at the skybox caterings of Hartwall Arena. As well as, to make improvement suggestions for the factors of work well-being on grounds of the findings.
Work well-being is a broad concept with many ways to define it. In this thesis work well-being is observed from the points of views of structural, social and psychological capital. Work well-being is an important resource to a company that should be maintained and developed.
The skybox caterings at Hartwall Arena, the biggest multifunctioning arena in Finland, is operated by Restel Ravintolat ltd. Restel is one of the largest restaurant operators in Finland. Restel’s main focus is on fast food restaurants and event caterings. Skybox caterings is a challenging working environment with long distances and versatile clientele.
A quantitative survey was conducted to the employees of Hartwall Arena’s skybox caterings in April 2019. The survey consisted on background questions, statements with answer scale from one to six, employee net promoter score and open-ended questions. The survey was sent to 43 employees and 29 answers were received, that makes an answerer percentage of 67. This high answerer percentage makes the results reliable.
The results were overall very positive. The most positive answers received statements about social capital, which is a sign of a good atmosphere. Also, some parts of the psychological capital received the top answers, which means that the employees have the needed know-how and confidence to perform their work. Areas that need development are feedback giving, physical working environment and stress load.
In conclusion, the factors that affect the work well-being at the skybox caterings of Hartwall Arena are mostly positive. However, improvement for example at the feedback giving and physical working environment is needed.
