Tiivistelmä
Terveelliset elintavat ovat merkittävä tekijä syövän ennaltaehkäisyssä, sillä suurin osa syöpätaudeista on ehkäistävissä. Terveellisillä elintavoilla tarkoitetaan tupakoimattomuutta, terveellistä ravintoa, riittävää liikuntaa, ylipainon välttämistä sekä alkoholin liikakäytön välttämistä.
Kehittämisprojekti on osa Lounais-Suomen Syöpäyhdistyksen NIKO-projektia, joka käynnistyi maaliskuussa 2017. Projektin päätavoitteena on nuorten terveyden edistäminen. Kehittämisprojektin tarkoituksena on selvittää NIKO-projektin alkukartoituskyselyyn perustuen varsinaissuomalaisten nuorten (13-19-vuotiaat) elintapoja, omasta terveydestä huolehtimisen keinoja sekä sitä, kuinka nuoret itse kokevat omasta terveydestään huolehtimisensa.
Kehittämisprojektin tavoitteena on vahvistaa ja lisätä valtaväestön tietoa ja toimintamahdollisuuksia nuorten terveyden edistämisestä. Tiedon välittämisen keinona käytetään toiminnallista terveyden edistämisen päivää projektin alkukartoituskyselyn tuloksiin pohjautuen.
Varsinaissuomalaiset 13-19-vuotiaat nuoret kokevat terveydentilansa pääosin kohtalaisen hyväksi (53 %) tai erittäin hyväksi (42 %). Pojat kokevat hieman tyttöjä enemmän oman terveydentilansa paremmaksi. Varsinaissuomalaiset nuoret kokevat oman terveyden hoitamisen pääosin melko riittäväksi (55 %) tai erittäin riittäväksi (37 %). Varsinaissuomalaisten nuorten päihteiden käyttö kaiken kaikkiaan on melko vähäistä.
Jopa puolet (50 %) vastaajista kokee väsymystä useamman kerran viikossa. 32 % taas kokee makean himoa useamman kerran viikossa.
A healthy lifestyle is an important factor in cancer prevention, as most cancers indeed are preventable. The concept of a healthy lifestyle includes non-smoking, healthy nutrition, adequate amount of exercise, avoiding overweight and avoiding overuse of alcohol.
The development project is a part of the Southwest Finland Cancer Association's (LounaisSuomen Syöpäyhdistys) NIKO project, which started in March 2017. The main goal of the project is to promote young people's health. Based on NIKO project's initial survey, the purpose of the development project is to examine the lifestyles of youngsters (13-19 years) in Southwest Finland, the ways of taking care of their own health, and how young people themselves experience taking care of their own health.
The aim of the development project is also to strengthen and increase knowledge and opportunities of the majority population in promoting the health of young people. A functional day for health promotion, based on the results of the project's initial survey, is used as a means of providing the knowledge and information.
The 13-19-year-olds of Finland Proper feel that their health is mainly quite good (53%) or very good (42%). Boys define the state of their health to be better a little more often than girls do. The youngsters of Finland Proper feel that taking care
of their own health is mostly quite adequate (55%) or very adequate (37%). Overall, the substance abuse by young people is rather limited. According to NIKO's initial survey, tobacco was slightly more popular than snuff among youngsters of Finland Proper.
The results of the study indicate that fatigue, lust for sweet and immobility among young people are concerns. As much as half (50%) of the respondents experience fatigue more than once a week. Again, 32% experience lust for sweet more than once a week. Regular exercise less than three times a week as a way for young people to take care of themselves was actualized the worst. More than half (54%) of the youngsters of Finland Proper reported that regular exercise less than three times a week is either very poorly, fairly poorly or not poorly nor well executed.
Based on the results of the initial survey, a functional day for health promotion was designed for the students of upper comprehensive school of Sauvo. The themes of the day were sleeping and rest, nutrition (lust for sweet), exercise and intoxicants (snuff). The checkpoints of each theme consisted of a bulletin
and a functional part. The day of functional health promotion was modeled in detail by writing down the plans and events of the day in order to be utilized in the NIKO project and in educational institutions in the future as well.
