Tiivistelmä
Tupakointi on keskeisin väestöryhmien välisten terveyserojen aiheuttaja. Tupakoitsijoilla on enemmän terveyshaittoja verrattuna tupakoimattomiin. Tupakointi on vahvasti yhteydessä erilaisiin psykiatrisiin sairauksiin. Psykiatriset potilaat haluavat vieroittautua tupakasta yhtä paljon kuin muutkin tupakoitsijat. Hoitohenkilökunta on avainasemassa psykiatrisen potilaan tupakoimattomuuteen motivoimisessa.
Tutkimuksessa voisi selvittää, onko henkilökunta motivoitunut puuttumaan potilaan tupakointiin, onko suunniteltu tietopaketti toimiva ja kokeeko hoitohenkilökunta saavansa tietopaketista apua motivoidessaan potilasta tupakoimattomuuteen. Lisäksi voisi tutkia, miten potilaat kokevat personoidun materiaalin auttavan tupakoimattomuuteen tukemisessa. Smoking is a major cause of health inequalities between population groups. Smokers have more health problems compared to non-smokers. Smoking is strongly connected to various psychiatric diseases. Psychiatric patients want to quit smoking as much as other smokers. Healthcare workers play a key role in motivating psychiatric patient smoking cessation.
The starting point of this thesis was to find out the connection between smoking and psychiatric diseases. The purpose of the thesis was to design and produce for the healthcare workers of the adult psychiatric departments of the Satakunta Health Care District an information package, which would make easier, more understandable and more effective to intervene patients smoking habits. The information package was designed to serve as a frame for discussion between the healthcare worked and the patient for motivation smoking cessation and highlighting the positive aspects of non-smoking. Also, there was designed and produced material about positive effects of smoking cessation for the patient.
This project-based thesis was carried out between January 2018 and May 2019. The product was a 16-page information package containing information on the importance of asking the patient about smoking habits and motivating to quit smoking. The information package contains various tools for practical work for the healthcare workers and materials for given to the patient to commit to your own treatment. The evaluation of the information package was carried out using an electronic questionnaire. Each of the opposition questions received mainly a positive evaluation. A few respondents completely disagreed with the clarity of the look and the adequacy of the content, but no suggestions for correction were made.
In the future it would be possible to explore the usability of the material in practical work in the departments of adult psychiatry at the Satakunta Health Care District. At the research could find out whether the healthcare workers is motivated to intervene in the patient's smoking, whether is the planned information package practical and will the healthcare workers get help with the information package when they are motivating the patient to quit smoking. In addition, it would be possible to explore how patients feel about personalized material which support they in smoking cessation.
