Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyöni on laadullinen tutkimus, jonka aiheena on sosiaalinen vahvistuminen nuorille suunnatussa matalan kynnyksen pienryhmässä.
Mäntsälässä on meneillään jo kolmas matalan kynnyksen pienryhmä. Ryhmää ja toiminnan formaattia kehitellään jatkuvasti paremmin muuttuvia tarpeita vastaaviksi. My thesis is a qualitative research. The chosen subject of this thesis is: social strengthening in a low-threshold group for young people. The youth group was carried out in the spring of 2018 in the municipality of Mäntsälä as a multidisciplinary co-operation between the adult social work department, the health care department, the accommodation counsellor and the employment services of Mäntsälä municipal council. The objective of the research was to observe the experiences young people have as participants in a low-threshold group and how participating helps social strengthening in a multidisciplinary context. This thesis is also a practical development work, where I developed new work models as a co-operation tool between outreach youth work and adult social work. This work was ordered by the youth services department of Mäntsälä municipal council.
The methods I used for data collection were questionnaires, mid-term reviews, participatory observation, reports, various forms and tasks that were collated during spring 2018 from the youth low-threshold group. The low-threshold youth group consisted of six unemployed adults, that were under the age of 29.
The findings obtained through my method of analysis as well as the findings of the questionnaires gave an opportunity to see into the problems the young adults were going through. This would have been extremely difficult to see otherwise. The young adults initial situations were very difficult had other more distancing methods been used.
This thesis shows that the low-threshold group strengthened the young adults socially in a three month period. The questionnaires filled out by the young adults reveal, that the group members felt more encouraged, they have become more social, they have received help and guidance from the facilitators of the group as well as access to various services in real time. The young adults felt that the most enjoyable part of the groups activities were the regular excursions into nature as well as the various recreational activities. All of the group members committed commendably to the group, which met regularly once a week for three months as a rehabilitating occupational activity. Four out of six young adults continued in the group for another three months.
The objective is for Mäntsälä council to instill this working model and for this model to be used in other parts of Finland in outreach youth work. At the moment, Mäntsälä's council is running its third low-threshold group. The group and the activity format is developed constantly to adapt better to the needs of the group members.
