I fotoserien demonstrerar respondenten styling utanför normerna.
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the feminine and masculine clothing standards through specific articles of clothing that have affected the standards. This is done to inform about how the history of clothes have influenced our clothing standards of today. In the photo series the respondent creates looks that demonstrate styling outside of these standards. The photo series can be used as inspiration for the respondent herself, beauty and cosmetic students as well as other people involved in the fashion industry.
The result of this study has been achieved by document studies, styling, photography and picture analysis. The result shows that it is possible to create esthetically pleasing looks for both women and men, without following the feminine and masculine clothing standards. These standards are a mix of history, ideals, cultural associations, the expectations of our society and socially shaped patterns. While styling the models the respondent chose to focus on the overall look as well as the cut, material and silhouette of the clothes instead of placing them in their predictable gender roles. The respondent finds it important for future beauty and cosmetics students and other people involved in this industry to be aware of the feminine and masculine clothing standards in fashion. The respondent hopes that the result of this study inspires others to be bold, experiment more in their styling and see beyond the clothes traditional gender affiliations.
