This work is part of the PAD Project (Positive attitude developement). The purpose with The PAD project is to change attitudes towards people who suffer from mental illness and reduce stigma. In this degree project, the mental health and illness of students that attended college and universities were investigated. The focus of this work has been on stigmatization around helpseeking among students. The concepts social inclusion and stigma act as theoretical reference frame. The purpose of this work has been to find out how to be able to lower the threshold for students to seek professional help for mental illness. The degree project has the following questions: How could you lower the threshold for students to seek professional help for mental disorder? And how does stigmatization affect students to seek help? These investigations have been done by using a literature study of eight scientific articles that have been analyzed with content analysis as an analytical method. The result could show that stigma and feeling of shame were considered the main obstacles for searching help. In the result it emerged that stigma can occur in two different forms: as indirect and direct. The result also showed that there are different kinds of stigma such as public stigma, social network stigma, personal stigma and selfstigma. These all types of stigma were associated with negative attitudes for helpseeking. Students also experienced the lack of in-formation, knowledge and awareness of mental illness as well as in the helpseeking process itself. With the result you can see that there are a lot of shortcomings in schools. Different education programs and workplaces should have more knowledge about the psychological health. Preventative efforts should be developed, and the actual helpseeking process should be made easier and more accessible. More awareness and the normalization of mental illness should reduce the stigma around the subject.
