Abstract
This thesis is a commissioned work done in a municipality in Ostrobothnia. The aim of this thesis was to find out how team members experience teamwork in home care and if there were any suggestions for improvement.
Virgina Hendersons theory about Nursing and Bruce Tuckermans theory about Group development were used as the theoretical foundations of the study. The theoretical background consists of literature and previous research on the topic concerned. The writer was also inspired by Lisa Andersson lectures on the book ”Teampusslet”.
The study is qualitative and data collection took place through a questionnaire, which was sent to the home care staff. 18 informants answered the questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by using qualitative content analysis. Main catogories and sub catogories were formed from the collected data. The main catogories were; communication in the team, cooperation in the team, the teamleader, teammeating, the optimal team and suggetions for improvement in home care. The thesis shows that the informants would prefer more meetings and reports in the team.
A red thread emerging from the collected data is that a smaller team is working well in terms of communication and cooperation. The informants also consider that an optimal team consists only of few members.
