This thesis is a literature based product development commissioned by APSLC, which addresses prehospital usage of the mechanical chest compression (MCC) device AutoPulse. This is relevant since the increasing prehospital usage of mechanical chest compression devices during resuscitation. The aim of this study is to identify how the mechanical chest compression device AutoPulse is used during resuscitation with a crew of two or four paramedics. Based on that, self-study material for the paramedic students at Arcada, University of Applied Sciences, is produced. The self-study material is formed to teach the paramedic students how the AutoPulse-system works, how the work is allocated during resuscitation with a MCC device and what patient groups the AutoPulse system can be used for. This knowledge and skill will benefit the students as they enter worklife. This study is done according to Carlström & Carlström Hagman’s (2006) method for development and follows the instructions for good scientific practice at Arcada. Previous research with clearly defined inclusion and exclusion criticism was found from several databases. Also, instructional movies are included. According to the guidelines for advanced resuscitation and previous research, MCC devices can be used in specific situations like during extended resuscitation or PCI. As elements for this product, Zoll Medical’s instruction movies that are based on the so called ”Pit-crew” model, Arcada’s flowchart for resuscitation and Käypä hoito guidelines for distinct work roles, are used. These key elements are integrated with the ERC guidelines for resuscitation and a flowchart for prehospital use of the MCC device AutoPulse is produced. The product is considered to be functional during the documentation event at Arcada.
