Vuorenmaa, Pia. Sisäkorvaistutetta käyttävien henkilöiden tulkkauspalvelun käyttö ̶ Nykytila ja tulevaisuuden kehittämishaasteet. Opinnäytetyö, kevät 2017, 75 sivua,
3 liitettä. Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu, Viittomakielen ja tulkkauksen koulutus, Tulkki (AMK).
Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on selvittää sisäkorvaistutetta käyttävien henkilöiden tulkkauspalvelun käyttöä.
Sisäkorvaistutteen käytön aikana yli kolmasosan vastaajien muutoksena tulkin käytössä on, että he tarvitsevat vähemmän tulkkia. Noin puolet vastaajista kokivat tarvitsevansa muunlaista tulkkausta, kuten menetelmää, jossa käytetään teknologiaa.
Suurin osa vastaajista käyttää puhekieltä, mikä heijastuu tulkin ja tulkkausmenetelmien valintaan. Eri tulkkausmenetelmiä käytetään monipuolisesti ja tulkin käyttö on tilannesidonnaista. Sisäkorvaistutteen jälkeen alle puolella tulkkauspalvelun käyttö on muuttunut. Lähes kolme neljännestä vastaajista eivät ole tulkkauspalvelusta hyvin tietoisia, joten tiedottamista tulkkauspalvelun käyttömahdollisuuksista tulisi tulosten perusteella lisätä. Vuorenmaa, Pia. The present state and future challenges of using interpreter services by people with cochlear implants. Thesis, spring 2017. 75 pages, 3 attachments. Diaconia University of Applied Sciences. Education of sign language and interpreting.
The main goal of the thesis is to research people with cochlear implants as for the use of interpreter services. The primary goals of the thesis are to research the changes with using the interpreter services after implantation and the possible ways of developing interpreter services in the future. The secondary goals are to research the use of interpreters, the use of different interpretation methods and the effect of interpreting in different situations. The thesis focuses of the on cochlear implant users that are in all ages nationwide. The material for the thesis was collected through a Webropol- multiple-choice questionnaire. The link for the questionnaire was distributed via different organizations like Deaf associations for example. There are total of 20 respondents. Over half of them are 50‒60 years old and one third of respondents 20‒40 years.
Results of questionnaire showed that most of the respondents use a typing interpreter. A segment of the respondents use a signing interpreter and a typing interpreter. A typing interpreter is needed mostly in events and during leisure time. The most common situation where signing interpreters are needed is for educational purposes. The “running errands” choice received the fewest answers. Over half of the respondents had no changes with interpretation methods after implantation. While using the cochlear implant, there is a change of the use of interpreter in over a third of the respondents. The change is that those respondents uses less interpreter than before. Over a third of the respondents suggest interpretation in another way like using more technology in interpretation.
The respondents’ language skills are mostly spoken language and this reflects on the results of using an interpreter and interpretation methods. The results show that respondents use various interpretation methods and that the use of interpreter depends on the situation. After implantation, less than half of the respondents’ ways of using interpreter services was changed. Three quarters of the respondents had no good knowledge of interpreter services. The results show a need to better inform people about use of interpreter services.
